Initiative for a strong climate law
The year 2022 brought to Slovakia the preparation of the first climate protection law, which can significantly help Slovakia prepare for the effects of climate change and set our country towards a sustainable, carbon-free and socially just future.

Carbon neutrality
- Slovakia will be carbon neutral by 2050.
- We will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55%, ideally by 65% by 2030.
- We will reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2030.
- We will stop using fossil gas by 2035.
- We will stop supporting fossil infrastructure (including natural gas boilers) with public resources by 2025.
Transparency
The public has information and participates in:
- Formation of positions of Slovakia vis-à-vis EU climate policies.
- Programs and plans that determine climate measures.
- Evaluating the fulfillment of climate commitments and measures.
Responsibility
- The decarbonization obligations of individual departments are clear, their fulfillment is controlled and enforceable.
- The government allocates sufficient funds for climate measures.

- Climate policies, especially in the field of energy, contain measures to address and prevent poverty.
- Climate measures are implemented with regard to the social reality of the population.
